Start with a 30-min call

Tell us about your business. We'll tell you straight.

30 minutes by Zoom. No deck, no pitch, no obligation. You walk us through the business and the AI questions you're working through, and we tell you honestly where we think we could help. If we can't, we'll tell you that too.

How to reach us

Email is the fastest way in.

All intro requests come to Craig directly. Replies usually inside one working day, often the same day.

Based in

Tauranga, Bay of Plenty. Working NZ-wide via Zoom. On-site visits available across the North Island and bookable for the South Island.

What to expect

  • 01
Same-day reply, usually. Email goes straight to Craig. We don't run a sales team or a triage funnel.
  • 02
No card, no pitch, no obligation. The intro call is genuinely free. If we think a service would help, we'll say so. If not, we'll say that too.
  • 03
Confidential by default. Everything in a discovery call is treated as confidential. NDA upfront on request, before we talk.

The 30 minutes

What an intro call actually covers.

No magic formula. The same five things, in roughly the same order, on every call.

Min 0-5

The business

Who you are, what you do, how the team is structured, what the last 12 months looked like, what the next 12 might.

Min 5-15

The AI questions

What you've already tried, what's working, what isn't, what you've been pitched, what you're worried about, what you're hoping for.

Min 15-22

Where AI might help

An honest first-pass on which workflows have real AI ROI for your specific business, and which probably don't yet.

Min 22-27

Typical scope and cost

If something looks like a fit, we sketch which service makes sense, the rough scope, rough cost, and rough timeline. No commitment.

Min 27-30 ·
Next steps, or no next steps. If there's a fit, we'll send a written proposal within 48 hours. If there isn't, we'll point you at something useful (a different consultant, a piece of reading, a tool to try) and the call wraps. Either is fine.
Common questions

About the intro call itself.

What happens on a discovery call?

30 minutes by Zoom. You walk us through the business, the team, and the AI questions you're working through. We listen, ask a handful of clarifying questions, and tell you honestly where we think we could help and where we couldn't. No deck on our side. No deck expected on yours.

Will you try to sell me something on the call?

No. The intro call is genuinely free, no obligation, no proposal at the end unless you specifically ask for one. If we think a service would help, we'll tell you which one and why. If we don't, we'll tell you that too. Plenty of intro calls end with "this isn't right for either of us, but here's what I'd do if I were you," and that's fine.

Do I need to prepare anything?

No. Don't build a deck. Don't write a brief. Don't even tidy your thinking too much. Turn up with the actual questions you're trying to answer about AI in your business. The messier and more candid, the more useful the call is. The polished version usually hides the real problem.

Who from Coupland Consulting is on the call?

Always Craig. Discovery calls are not delegated to a junior, an analyst, or a sales rep. If the engagement proceeds and specialists are needed for a particular phase (a security review, a niche tool evaluation), you'll meet them at that point. But discovery is always principal-to-principal.

Are calls confidential?

Yes. Everything discussed in a discovery call is treated as confidential by default. We don't use any client material in talks, articles, or other client engagements. For deeper conversations or particularly sensitive material (board-level financial detail, M&A context, regulatory issues), we'll sign an NDA upfront on request before the call.

I'm not sure I'm ready for AI yet. Should I still call?

Yes, especially if you're not sure. Half the value of a discovery call is working out whether AI is actually the right next investment for your business, or whether something else (data hygiene, a process fix, a different hire, even just better software basics) would move the needle more first. We'd rather tell you "not yet" honestly than sell you a service that won't pay off.

Still here?

One email and we'll set the time.

30 minutes, by Zoom, with Craig. Same-day reply, usually. No card, no pitch, no obligation. The worst that happens is you leave the call with a clearer view of your own AI options.
